The Cordial Life

As the Cordial family patiently awaits the birth of our third daughter, we’ve been busy putting the finishing touches on her nursery. After having two little girls already, we desperately wanted to avoid pinks and purples. Been there, done that. For this baby, we wanted something different… I really wanted to paint her room blue, but didn’t want it to look like a boy’s room. So here’s a sneak peek into our little corner of the world and how we used the colors in the baby shower invitation below to inspire the entire color scheme of her nursery – perfect for our baby girl.

I loved the colors used in this design and thought how pretty it would be to use these colors as the overall color scheme in our baby’s nursery. I wouldn’t consider teal, green, and red to be a typical choice for a little girl’s nursery, but it’s that exact reason why I fell in love with it.

To begin, we painted her walls a soft blue and added some cherry red curtains. On the left, you’ll see an antique 9 drawer Willet dresser we revived with a fresh coat of teal paint.

I really wanted to create a few custom art pieces for her room. Check out this collage of fabric covered embroidery hoops I hung on the wall behind the glider. To create this look, I simply used a variety of fabric scraps and different sized embroidery hoops. This project was really inexpensive and looks adorable in the room.

For above her bed, I covered canvas squares with different fabrics and attached the letters of her name. I like this idea as an alternative to hanging wall letters with traditional ribbon. Too cute!!

Now I’ll be the first to admit, finding crib bedding for a girl that was NOT pink or purple was not easy. After weeks of searching, I found this beautiful “Alexis Garden” set by Nojo. Check out the lime green area rug I found at Kirkland’s for $30. Now that’s a bargain!!

Red Crib Bedding

At the opposite end of the room, you’ll find a built in desk that for the time being, we are repurposing as a changing table. It’s the perfect height and has lots of storage for diapers, wipes, blankets, etc. And let us not forget, she has two older sisters that need a little space to play while mommy is in the room. Check out the little play nook I created for them complete with custom ABC artwork.

Red Crib Bedding

The ABC wall art was my biggest labor of love for the room. It took me quite awhile to find all the letters A-Z in different fonts. I used decoupage techniques to cover each letter with scrapbook paper. It took a couple weeks to finish all the letters, but the finished product is adorable. And the best part is… my girls love it!

Here’s a closer look at the play table I painted for the girls. First of all, I found the table at a peddler’s mall for only $16. A steal, right? Well, it was the perfect size and color… only problem was, it had a horrible painting on the top of it. After staring at the table for a couple weeks, I finally decided on what I would paint over it. I used lime and teal to create a checkerboard pattern and painted different colored flowers around the edges to completely conceal the “original” artwork. And I’ll be the first to admit, I am not an artist, but overall I think it turned out pretty cute… especially for 16 bucks. I found the little flower stools at Homegood’s.

Hand Painted Checkerboard Game Table

So now that the room is finished, we get to sit back and relax… and wait for our 3rd precious baby to join our family. It’s hard to believe all this inspiration came from a simple Baby Shower Invitation. So check back soon… to see our Birth Announcements.
